2026 Funding Applications

'Cherry On Top' Funding:

NOW OPEN

Are You Seeing This are proud to announce that applications for their annual funding pot are open from Thursday January 8th 2026, until Sunday March 8th 2026. This year (like last!) we are looking to give away money for that finishing touch, something a little special, the cherry on top of the cake - so to speak. Want to splash a little more on some specific kit? Got your eyes on that location but it's pushing the budget? Need access to a certain archive? See you in our inbox!

We will announce the funding winners in late March, probably coinciding with an in person AYST screening event (TBA). We have kept the process as simple and accessible as possible, to suit what you find easiest/best for you and your project. You have two months to apply. More info below...

TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION

- Tell us about: yourself & any relevant crew/cast; the project; what point you are currently at in production
- Why this film is important to you at this point in your career
- How much funding you need and what for
- Examples of work (either work on the project so far, or any previous work you deem relevant/to support your vision or our understanding of you or the project)

The above must then be sent via email to areyouuseeingthis@gmail.com as a .pdf/s by March 8th 2026 with any relevant attachments readily available for us to view/watch without downloading (passwords provided/google drive access granted already/etc), subject line: AYST FUNDING APPLICATION 2026

THE RULES

- applications can be made for any amount up to £500
- there are NO* restrictions on what part of production you are at or what you need the money for, but we ask that you are clear on how you will use it
- you must submit in good faith that you are a NEW or EMERGING filmmaker (have a look at our Instagram for the types and variety of work we have screened)
- ONE application per person and per project
- the film the funding helps achieve can be screened at a future AYST event that you will attend
- applications will be accepted up until the 8th March 2026

*except for: consultations, external paid services (e.g. money going towards paid funding applications)

'cherry on top' funding RECIPIENTS: 'Dancers of God'

Are You Seeing This are excited to announce that Sheyamali Sudesh and Ermias Asfaw's 'Dancers of God' wins the 2025 Cherry on Top fund! This year we were looking to giveaway money for that finishing touch, something a little special, the cherry on top of the cake so to speak. Wanted to splash a little more on some specific kit? Got your eyes on that location but it's pushing the budget? Everything ready to go but you need a hand getting the film in front of festival crowds? We wanted to hear from you - and we did!

It was an incredibly touch decision, with a large amount of high quality applications, but ultimately Sudesh and Asfaw's work won out. The film has everything AYST cares about in every fibre of its being. Not only is the film artistically and creatively a standout, its focus on South Asian tradition and history is brought to new audiences - all, undeniably, with their own clear and bold vision.

The funding will be used towards editor costs, archival acquisition and researcher fees.

We'll keep you posted as the film progresses, and applications for AYST's 2026 funding will open early next year...

AYST 2024 FUNDING WINNERS ANNOUNCED

On Saturday 10th February 2024 at MOTH Club, Are You Seeing This announced the inaugural recipients of their annual funding. This year's winners are:

KATIE KING

DAISY MOORE

From a large number of applications, both recipients received £450 each towards their new projects - both in development currently. In line with AYST's values the process was kept as open and accessible for applicants as possible, resulting in an interesting and diverse set of submissions. The winners were announced at the February screening and we will be keeping you up to date on their progress throughout the year.

This year we picked projects that we felt were for emerging filmmakers at significant points in their career, where this next project has the potential to be an important step for them. Both Katie and Daisy's innovative and exciting style of filmmaking stood out to the AYST team - as well as their efforts to fund their work so far, with realistic budgets and clear outlines on the next steps.
